Household assessment for the communities of the farm (May 2009)

This international juice factory took over an Ethiopian state farm near Nazreth (Ethiopia) recently. The employees of the factory are living in three farming areas around the factory, existing out of a variety of smaller villages. The factory management states that obvious improvements in the people's livelihoods need to be made, by creating an outgrowers program. The assessment needed to be conducted on a short term (3 days) and needed to provide a clear overview of the population (male/female/children), health facilities, water supplies, educational facilities and others.

Community assessment. (October 2009)
africa JUICE Tibila Share Company is implementing an outgrowers project, that will include smallholder farmers of the surrounding communities. In order to develop the business, the facilities in the surrounding communities need to have a minimum standard. For this purpose a baseline assessment has been conducted which makes an inventory of the health facilities, educational facilites and the situation of potable water in the communities. This assessment will function to attract some donor organisations to implement community development programmes that will work parallel to the outgrowers project.
